gamescom award 2014

Koelnmesse hosts the gamescom award annually which pays homage to the best games and products premiered at the gamescom. Within the context of gamescom, the submitted titles are evaluated by an international independent jury of experts, categorised and are give awards.

The winners of the gamescom awards, the most coveted award of the European computer and video game industry have been selected. On Friday, 15 August 2014, starting at 06:00 p.m. on the "Let's play meets gamescom stage" (hall 10.1) it was “and the winners are...“. Just like the expert panel’s decision on who are the winners in the 13 categories, the audience's decision on who is to receive the "gamescom most wanted consumer" and the "best of gamescom" awards was eagerly awaited. A total of 140 submissions were entered for this year's gamescom awards, 54 of which made it to the group of nominees.

Best Simulation Game:
Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Curtain Call (Square Enix GmbH)

Best Sports Game:
PES 2015 (Konami Digital Entertainment B.V.)

Best Family Game:
LittleBigPlanet 3 (Sony Computer Entertainment Deutschland GmbH)

Best PC Game:
Evolve (Take-Two Interactive GmbH/2K)

Best Mobile Game:
Super Smash Bros. für 3DS (Nintendo of Europe GmbH)

Best Social / Casual / Online Game:
LittleBigPlanet 3 (Sony Computer Entertainment Deutschland GmbH)

Best Online Multiplayer Game:
Evolve (Take-Two Interactive GmbH/2K)

Best Hardware (incl. peripherals):
Oculus Rift DK2 (Oculus VR)

Evolve by Take-Two Interactive GmbH/2K received the highest number of votes and won a total of five categories: "Best Console Game Microsoft Xbox", "Best PC Game", "Best Action Game" and "Best Online Multiplayer Game". In the most popular prize category, the "best of gamescom", Evolve won as well. Super Smash Bros won the audience's highest recognitions. This makes Nintendo the winner of the first "gamescom most wanted consumer award" in the history of the awards.
