Canada was official partner country of gamescom - review 2010

Already at its premiere, gamescom set a course as international meeting point of the European and international games industry. Now, Koelnmesse and the conceptual sponsor BIU (German Trade Association of Interactive Entertainment Software) are considerably developing the concept for the internationalisation of the leading fair of the industry: Canada is the first partner country to present itself to the international games community at gamescom.

Olaf Wolters, CEO of BIU: "We are very pleased to have won Canada, the country with the highest innovation and development power for the global games industry, as a partner of gamescom already in the first year of the partner country concept."
Oliver P. Kuhrt, Executive Vice President of Koelnmesse adds: "With Canada as first official partner country, gamescom emphasises its position as internationally leading business, impulse and entertainment platform and its ability to open the doors to the most important markets in the world. I'm sure Canada will create a furore at gamescom"

The broad support from Canada is certain. The provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, Nova Scotia, Quebec, Ontario have pledged their support and participation in the partner country concept gamescom.

Canadian companies in all fields of the value added chain belong to the world's leading representatives in games development. The country has a digital media sector with hundreds of companies and more than 10,000 experts setting development and creativity standards in the digital media sector. 60 universities offering a large variety of courses from the games field and attractive support programmes of the government make Canada the hotspot of the creative games industry. Leading companies as Nintendo, Activision Blizzard, Electronic Arts or Ubisoft located their development studios, head offices and branches in Canada. Numerous big sellers, as for instance FIFA or Assassins Creed, originally come from Canadian studios. The same applies to hundreds of games closely relating to Hollywood's movie productions as for example Avatar, Ice Age, King Kong or x-Men.
